At Otago Polytechnic School of Design we hosted a design symposium in October – a short, upbeat, informal talkfest for industrial designers. It was really fun and a lot of work, and a nice privilege to help with the design and organising. We wanted the name and look of the thing to reflect the values of our team, and be as un-scary and down-to-earth as possible. The event was really well-supported and we were super grateful to all the speakers and conveners, OP, Mike Waddell, the industry friends and students and other attendees, and all the many people who helped behind the scenes.
Pedals Dunedin
Pedals is a new cool cycle courier operation in our wee city. Look out for the guys zipping about town on their sweet cargo bikes, providing a great service and helping reduce traffic. It was a privilege to help Liam with the branding and design. Update: I worked with Liam to sweeten up the design of the website, and helped a bit with the UX of the new booking system. Special thanks to Josh J from Reframed for such a great job with the photos and video.
New Cell Division beer labels
Strong ‘n’ dark. These nice new beer labels are for Cell Division’s bottles of Forager (a banging Belgian honey tripel) and La Biere Noire (a mean Belgian stout). A languid (but busy) bee, and a film noir-inspired sense of the twisted. If you love dark beer like I do, you must try!
window design for High St office
I drew a stylised Aoraki for these entranceway manifestations in the beautifully refitted Oritain offices in Dunedin. It was tricky (but fun) figuring it out. A visitor can look through to the windows in the northwest wall, the direction of the real maunga, roughly. Thanks Tai from Stevenson Tua’i for the ideas and gentle whip-cracking, Oritain for the opportunity, Liz for help with the drawing, Williams for the top job installing it and Graham Warman for kindly letting me use his excellent photos.
